Day 1: Off to Tasmania

After a day of rest at Barb and Brad's home on the Gold Coast of Australia, we are on a plane to Tasmania.  Ann and I are feeling good with a minimum of "Jet Lag"

Tasmania is a heart shaped island due south of Australia proper.  It is summer and the climate is mild during the day but because it is very close to Antarctica (2700 miles), it is cold at night.

We flew into the second largest city in Tasmania, Launceston.  After settling into our motel in late afternoon, we went to the #1 local attraction called The Cataract Gorge.  Its claim to fame is that it has the longest single span chairlift in the world.  It was a unique experience.  Later, we had dinner at the local fishing pier.  We plan to spend 4 nights in Launceston and tour with this town as our base.
